Weigh In 7/27/10

Last Week's Weight: 292.8
This Week's Weight: 294.8
Gain: 2

Total Loss: -19

Ugh! This is pre-iPhone territory! We are talking like mid-February weight. NOT happy about this. I didn't work out like I wanted to, I am not tracking like I should. I am in a slump.

According to my Gruve there was only one day last week were I didn't achieve my green goal. Of course it was Monday, the day before my weigh in.

So what did I do about it? Well I went grocery shopping after the weight watchers meeting, since I was up at the scale I didn't purchase anything that would tempt me or derail my efforts. Not that I normally do, but I was more strict this time. I had plans to go to the gym, but I forgot my headphones for my iPod, I'm just the kind of gal who needs music to workout. It helps to keep my energy up.

So this afternoon, I decided it was way too nice outside not to go and get a walk in, once I got moving, I wanted to try a Couch to 5K training session from my iPhone. I restarted the program, but instead of going back to week 1 day 1, I jumped in where I left off, week 3 day 2! I was able to complete the session. I was so proud of myself, I haven't trained or really ran since my first 5k way back in early June, so this felt amazing to do.

I tracked my food today in my Weight Watchers app for the iPhone, I have the tools, I just need to use it! And hold myself accountable for the decisions I make.

The topic of today's Weight Watcher's meeting was Smart Snacking, we discussed:
  • Planning snacks at hungry times
  • Choosing filling foods
  • Counting and tracking snacks
  • Preparing snacks ahead of time
  • Packing snacks to go
Challenge issued this week was to try and get the 5 servings of fruit and veggies every day and plan for snacks, create a list of easy packable snacks.

Next week's topic: Getting off the merry-go-round

I've never really tracked my hunger, I've just always ate when I felt like I was supposed to, standard meals, but I can see how snacking would help in maintaining levels within your own body to keep you feeling satisfied longer. I typically eat every 3-4 hours, but that's just me, I've never really tracked it. I am going to try to track my hunger and see if eating every 3-4 hours is helping or hurting my efforts.

One thing I love about my Weight Watcher's leader is every month she gives us a calender with a daily tidbit on it. I read it every day, it's part of my ritual. One thing that jumped out at me for next month is Monday August 2: "Where do you want to be on Labor Day? You have 5 weeks to get there." I want to be at my 10% by Labor Day, but that is nearly 12 pounds to loose in 5 weeks, roughly 2.4 pounds a week, it may not be in me, but I am certainly going to give it a go!

In other news, I don't know if Amber was serious, but last night she tweeted about needing a gym buddy (even if virtual) and I could always use a kick in the behind and someone else to help me along. So I offered my services. Since she's on the west coast and I live on the east coast, I highly doubt that we will ever be gym buddies in real life, but hey, blogging is sometimes real life too!

Have a great week everyone! I look forward to blogging about my August goals and recapping my July Goals and my quarterly 101 things in a 1001 days update!

Couch to 5K Update!

Wow, never thought I'd be blogging about that! Since the sinus infection from hell, I had to put my 5K training on hold. Every time my feet impacted the ground the roof of my mouth and the top teeth would kill, like someone was ripping them out. I couldn't run...  On top of that, the whole breathing thing wasn't working right, WAY too much mucus up there... (gross!)

However, since finishing the course of antibiotics, and getting some well needed rest, I am feeling much better and today decided to venture out to pick up where I left off with the program. Today was Week 2 day 2.

Considering I haven't trained in 3 weeks and coming off a pretty nasty infection, I didn't expect much, but I pushed myself to at least try. And you know what, it wasn't that bad... I did fairly ok. At the end, I was beat though, but so happy that I got back on. The old me, would have just given up. BIG NSV (non-scale victory)!!

With my first 5k in 3 weeks, I don't believe that I will be finished with the C25K training program, as of now, my plan is to walk/jog it as best as I can. I've only ever done a 5K at a walk before, and it was for breast cancer and I was with a bunch of friends, so we didn't really keep track of time or anything. I am going to try and track my time so that I have a baseline and something to work on.

I haven't "fallen in love" with running yet, but I want to give it a try. I love walking and hiking, so it just seemed very natural, but I'm going to keep at it. I do believe that the more weight I lose the easier running will come as I won't feel like I am doing damage to my legs with all that pressure on my joints.

I also haven't forgotten my mini goal of my looming 10%. I would still like to achieve my 10% goal (31 pounds) by the end of May. That gives me 2 weeks and roughly 5 pounds to go. Totally achievable.

I think this week on my days off, I want to at least walk the race course for my 5k, I am familiar with the area (it's probably 3 or 4 towns over from me) but I'd only even driven in the area, never walked.

Weekly Weigh-In

So I am into the part of my work schedule where I am working during my usual weigh-in day/time. So typically I have to weigh in at either another location or another time. Le sigh, it just really screws with my schedule, but I should get used to this, my schedule isn't changing anytime soon.

Starting Weight: 313.8
Last Week's Weight: 291
This Week's Weight: 291.6
Loss/Gain: +0.6
Total Loss since starting: -22.2

After writing my last post about my hitting my 10% goal, I thought I would be better motivated. Better just make it 8.8 pounds to lose in the next 5 weeks. I think it was my body's way of saying we can meet/beat that challenge! (right?)

Also, in the post, I had said my doctor wanted follow up lab work done next month. Well she mailed me the lab slip, and it said to have it drawn ASAP.. so I guess I won't get to wait till May. But I am still down 20+ pounds, that should account for something.

Inspired partly by Kat's post about Weights are for Girls, I went to the gym today and busted out some reps on the weight machines. Tried to do a combination of arms, chest, legs. Weight training is an important part of exercise, besides, I have some good muscles from carrying around all this fat for years, now that I am lighter, I need to work those muscles more to make up the difference.

Afterwards, I went home and started a couch to 5k, week 2 day 1 session for a bit of cardio. I have to admit there were 2 run sessions, were I could only make it running for about 30-45 seconds (instead of the full minute).

Oh and did I mention that I woke up yesterday and today with a sore throat and a froggy voice? I am so zexy...

Ten Percent

I'm taking a moment to think (write) out loud. Over the past 5 weeks I went from my all time low, since starting Weight Watchers (287.2 on 03/09/10) and I've gained since then to my current weight (291 on 04/15/10). I've been on a backwards slide over 5 weeks.

I have my 10% goal looming. Its 31 pounds. Which translates to 282.8, that is 8.2 pounds more to go. Ideally, I had hoped to achieve this before having my 6 month blood work check in May. I think this is still attainable.

Achieving this goal, would also benefit my mini competition with DBF. Not sure if I blogged about it. DBF and I entered into a small competition beginning 2 weeks ago and running till my birthday (late June). The prize is a one night stay at a place of the winner's choosing anywhere in New England. Loser has to pay. Really benefits both of us, since we will get to spend time together. Highest percentage lost will determine winner. Although I do believe that DBF bended the rules, since he did his start weight at NIGHT rather than in the morning, like we discussed.... just sayin'

I want that damn key chain, so I can put my charms on it! Word has it, that we will get a 5k charm for participating in the WW Walk-It Challenge on June 6th. It really gets me down when I earn these charms, but have no key chain to put it on!

In other news, my BondiBands came in today! I cannot wait to try these out during my 5k training runs and in Zumba! I love having bangs, but they really get in the way when one is trying to work out! Be sure to be on the lookout for a product review here in the near future (probably next week so I can Zumba with them as well).

I haven’t even started c25k week 2 yet, life has been so busy. Not that it is an excuse! But it happens, I’ve got to find the time and be more dedicated to the program. I am enjoying that it is staying lighter out later though. That has been such a delight. On the other hand I have woken up before my alarm every day this week so far, due to it being light out and the birds chirping away (including my 5:40 am alarm for work!).

So my focus will be the 8.2 pounds in the next 5 weeks (I am going to weigh in either tonight or tomorrow before work) that is a very attainable goal and will put me in the middle of May, just in time to have my blood work done.

What is your mini goal that you are working on currently?
